This week was a very long week. I was in the house pretty much the whole week just reading the scriptures. I actually enjoyed reading and studying for a the most part... but I'm just ready to go out and work. I'm also sick of my crutches.
My companion is just awesome. His name is Elder Vazquez and is from Cuidad Victoria, Tamaulipas México. He has 13 months in the mission and is just a really nice guy. He is always serving me and always has a smile on his face. I'll be honest... he is one of the happiest people I have ever met... but a genuine happiness. Hes awesome, I love him.
I was able to see the ward this week due to some meetings that we had this week. I forgot how much I love the ward here in Buenos Aires. They were all really exited to see me... actually the first thing that everyone said to me was... "What happened to you?" I teased them about it because when you see someone after a long time you ask them how they are doing and tell them that you are excited to see them... nope I got the whole "what did you do to yourself?" first and then the "we have missed you" :) I honestly love this ward and the people are just really great people... I still havent been able to see Gerardo my convert though... maybe this next Sunday.
We had an awesome meeting this last Saturday with Elder Russel M. Nelson. He is just such a great man... its amazing when he walks in the room you can just feel the spirit super strong. Anyways the meeting was for the two missions here in Guadalajara. Before starting the meeting we all made a line to shake the hand of Elder Nelson. I was the very last person... due to my crutches... to shake his hand. He looked at me and said "Wounded in Action?" I just said something like yes... and then he said "Are you going to be okay?" I told him that I think so... and then hobbled my way back to my seat. It was actually kind of embarassing being there in crutches in front of all the other 450 missionaries in the room... especially because I was the last one... but its all good... Elder Nelson probably is going to remember me at least a little bit ;)
He had a translator because he didn't speak Spanish but it was actually really fun for me to hear it in both English and Spanish and it's amazing that I understand both languages... the gift of tounges is awesome.
Anyways he talked a lot about the families and the importance of them. It was very inspiring but actually before he talked about the families he thanked all of us for our service... he also wanted to thank all of you at home for giving us this oportunity to be here. He talked about the importance of the family and the great oportunity that we have to be missionaries. It was a spectacular meeting. He also chewed us out for not knowing English as Americans and that we should be helping our companions learn English... oops.
That night I was complaining a little bit to Elder Vazquez about the fact that apostles should have the gift of tounges... right? I mean they are apostles. Not that I didn't enjoy his talk but it was a thought.
The next day we had a special conference with Elder Nelson where he spoke about the families. It was amazing. Once again he shook everyone's hand and hugged many people and always talked to the little children. It was amazing... so many people were crying at the end of the meeting. Something amazing was that in the middle of the meeting he stopped and said I think that I am going to give my talk in Spanish... he spoke then in Spanish. My companion just made fun of me.
I now have to go but I am doing pretty well. Thanks for all the support
I am still not walking... but soon will be.
Love,
Elder Summers
