Familia, Things are going really well down here in Guadalajara. Elder Reyes and I are working hard and getting to know each other better each and every day. Something thats really neat going on down here in the Obra is our investigador Gerardo. He is just such a neat guy. We recieved a reference on our cell phone this last week from church headquarters saying that there is a man named Gerardo that is super ready to accept the gospel that's living in our area! |
We visited him this last week and just like the text message said he is super ready. Gerardo lived in Utah for about 10 years in Provo and had a really good experience with the Church there. He mentioned that everyone in Utah is super nice there and he loved visiting the Church there and feeling the Spirit. He also mentioned that he liked the English ward he was in better than the Spanish ward because in the Spanish ward there was a lot of problems with drugs and stuff... hahaha I about died laughing. Anyways he had a good experience there in Utah with the Church. He's been living down here in Guadalajara for about 10 years and has been missing Utah this whole time. He also realized that the Church was part of the reason he has been missing Utah so much. He's a really neat guy. He had an accident (I believe it was when he was in Utah) and now he can't walk very well. He uses a walker or a wheel chair at all times. He also seems to have a learning disability as well but does understand the diference between right and wrong and understands and recognized the Spirit. He is super funny, he loves talking about cars and about English. I think I mentioned this in an earlier letter but a program pretty cool (or in English grammar, a pretty cool program) in the mission down here is that the Spanish speakers are learning English as well. My companion doesn't necesarilly like to learn English (unlike my last companion) and finds it difficult for him. (once again, Spanish grammar) Well every time we talk to Gerardo he always asks Elder Reyes how his english is going and tries to quiz him with numbers and simple phrases. My companion doesn't seem to like it but I think its hilarious. Gerardo doesn't necessarily speak English very well eather. Well we asked Gerardo to be baptized and for a specific date for his baptism and he said yes. He went to church yesterday and enjoyed every bit of it... even the parts he slept through :) But really he is great and is so ready to recieve the gospel... we just got to help him understand the the principios del evangelio and then he's golden. His bautismo date is for the 18 of January (due to the 5 times investigadores have to attend church before bautismo). I am excited to keep visiting him and help him in his decision a bautizarse. (get baptized)
I am doing really good. It's really weird that its almost Christmas and it's even weirder that there is no snow here! This is going to be my first Christmas without snow and I'll miss the snow but at the same time... you all are freezing back at home (even you all in St George, 6+ inches of snow! Crazy!) and I am enjoying the sun every day... seriously just feels like it's been September these last few months, super nice! Anyways I better get going but I want you all to know I am doing great and loving the mission. The mission is even sicker now that I can talk to people!
Oh yeah, quick story. So some random cholo (gang banger) came up and asked me the other day if I could read a paper he had... I started reading it saying... "Te amo mucho, A la luna y al regreso." So the paper really said in English "I love you so much, to the Moon and Back." Let's just say I got a lot of weird looks from a lot of different people pouring my heart out to this random gang banger. ¡Jaja pero no pasa nada!
Love you all! Keep going to church or I'll be angry.
Con Amor,
Elder Summers
