Familia,
Things have been going pretty good here in Guadalajara México. The weather is really nice, as usual, and the work has been going pretty well. This last week we worked a lot with a new investigador named Marisol. She owns a ice cream shop and is honestly a little weird. We taught a few lessons to her but sometimes its hard to keep her focused because she just seems to have a lot of things on her mind. For example, I read a scripture this last week and asked her what she could understand from the scripture and she respondend saying something along the lines of this, "Your skin is so strange and smooth. Do people tell you that a lot?" Okay Marisol... let's try and focus a little more... this message that we share with you is the most important message you will ever hear in your entire life. Something that I have learned on the mission is that adults have about just as hard of time at paying attention as the kids do.
One thing that has been a strange but tough obstacle in my mission is that people have a hard time reading the Book of Mormon. Let me clarify, there are a whole bunch of people down here that don´t know how to read. We ask them to read something in a pamphlet or the scriptures in our lecciones and a common response is, "I never learned how to read." Weird right? It's kind of hard for people to recieve a testimony of the Book of Mormon if they can't even read it. I think we might have to start holding "Reading" clases in order to help spread our message down here in Mexico. Weird right?
So, a big thing happened this week. Elder Reyes has changes and is headed to Michoacán right now. President Camarillo also called me this week and notified me that I will be receiving a new missionary. So, turns out I will be training a new missionary starting tomorrow. I was pretty excited to hear that I will be training and am excited to meet my new companion. In the mean time I am here in my area with Elder Mujica until we both recieve our brand new verdes [greenies] tomorrow. I was super excited to hear that I will be training but later I got notified that I have also been assigned to be the District Leader. I was looking forward to serving my new companion and helping him but now it turns out that I will be having more responsibilities serving as the District Leader. I'm not too excited for that but we'll see how it goes.
Love you all,
Elder Summers
